I am one of your avid supporters for your products and its vision that have kept people going. Your reputation and vizionalized goal has come a long way and have profited a lot of citizens of this forum.

    a) Since people especially those you say are out for a quick buck, have a e-synidicat as their directory and working a deeplink mod for deeplinks using phpld isn't it that the motive is to destroy the works of phpld and their supporters ?

    b) As pioneer in the script we use, would you in your honest opinion to most of the citizens here using the script of phpld, shall we work hand in hand with each other ?

    c) What recommendations can you suggest to us, phpld users, do we have to unite and voice our disatisfaction to people like the rippers ?

These are things since by doing the things now they put chaos in your company as well. It starting and that is next step.

Yes, there is so much to be gained by working with each other. A few things come to mind:
    1) Talking about ways to maximize profits
    2) Talking about the best mods/configurations
    3) Submitting your customer's sites to other directory owners that are your friends
    4) Sharing content with each other. For example, how about an article exchange? (with the new articles section of phpLD)
    5) Creating packages to sell links in multiple directories and working together to market the packages.
    There are new ideas everyday.
We need more innovation in all areas: coding, design, marketing, networking, content

For your third question, maybe we can consider starting a directory owners association. I have to be careful with what I say for or against specific people, but I can certainly help the community itself in creating procedures for awarding those that make a contribution, and not awarding those who have not earned it.

I don't claim to hold all the answers, but I hope we can agree that we can all do better in creating something that is moving in the right direction, and all benefit as a result.

    Lol..Hey David,
you basicly just stated what our mission is and has been at Directory-owners. We're not an "association" so to speak but rather have and are trying to help the directory commuity out as a large by being impartial to any of the scripts/script owners etc. You and I have briefly discussed this in the recent past with regards to rewards etc. This is something we will definitely be carrying forward with in conjunction with yourself and some of the other script developers. I've just been buried with "real work/real job" lately and haven't had the opportunity to follow up on this as quickly as I would have like to.

Yes, I like what you are doing, and appreciate your thoughts here in this thread. I hope some others will visit directory owners and make some friends. :)

Hard to believe all this when on your forum you specifically start a thread questioning whether it is worthwhile to submit sites to Aviva ("Aviva worth the price?") and state:

    etc, etc.

Hardly seems like you're "impartial" to any of the owners or doing anything to develop a friendly community...

I think people take notice when someone goes around saying bad things about others. Sometimes it is warranted to say something about someone that did something wrong, but people who do so repetitively tend to be taken less seriously.

    A great idea!!!

As matter of fact I just going stop writing any comments for posts that has no meaning.

And I invite everyone to help each other in this way. We can skip a few problems by doing this.

Less than 30 posts and once again we have turned into a commercial (expected turn since David started this thread), have an attack against another script (strangely enough not the typical target) and some nastiness between posters (sadly typical here).

It was a nice idea David - my first thought was that it wouldn't last past 10 posts. It did get further than I thought it would.

The rediculous sniping going on around here is only hurting everyone as this prevents an honest exchange of ideas and chases away other members who might have something useful to add.

Perhaps if everyone reread their post at least once before they posted there would be a bit more civility here.

I can't help but ask the obvious - if you want a forum/place to work together to promote phpLD and complain about the "rippers" - don't you already have the phpLD support forum to do that?

I have tried to not be confrontational and have tried to share ideas without getting too deep into the ugliness around here; but some of the comments in this thread are blatently self-serving and far from community-supporting.

I agree. Very much something that can be helpful regardless of which script is being used.

Sharing ideas about current mods and concepts should always be welcome, but once anyone starts quantifying things with "best" it always becomes a shouting match around here; unless of course those mods/configurations relate to a particular script. We all lose as long as this continues to be acceptable behavior. Each of the leading scripts and their communities are coming up with ideas that could prove beneficial for everyone.

Are you suggesting that folks only submit to directories of people they consider their friend? And are you implying that those friends should only be those folks using the same script - yours? Does that also suggest we don't support new directory owners until they become friends or use the same script?

Yes, I am looking at this from a cynical perspective, but you have to admit that this idea of friends has morphed into rabid supporters of certain scripts making a sport of attacking anyone who says anything positive about other scripts.

So much for "Can't we ALL get along" and yet another commercial.

Interesting idea, but, again are we talking only those who are using the same scripts aka friends or everyone here? This is a great idea and one I would support were it done across scripts and "friendships".

I agree 100%. This is what this section of DP should aspire to; maybe then we could actually learn something from each other.

Sorry if I don't see this post as being an innocent suggestion to work together as like so many posts here it has migrated into promoting one script over the others.

I will leave it to others to judge me. You are entitled to your opinion. If you have any suggestions about how I could better work with you personally, please let me know how I could be of help.

Just as others talk about their sites, I do talk about mine. I am happy to hear about your site too, and I believe that I am under the same rules as everyone else. I try my best to understand the community's standards and honor them.

Now, I hope that people will try to think about the topic, and see how we can improve here in THIS forum. I think we can. It's pretty crazy here lately. I do sincerely hope I can help some, but I depend on the other people in this community. I am one individual.

Onlinedude - you are probably unaware so I will state it here for the record. The comments below that you are quoting and any other specific derogatory comment/post etc. that may be on Directory-Owners prior to 3/31 is not from me nor did I post it even though it may be under my username on the forum (TC). I purchased the forum effective 3/31 of this year and changed the prior admin's/owner screen name to mine...thus what appears to be my post(s).

To further explain impartiality on the D-O forum (not that I have to explain) but I prefer too: You will see that there are presently banners in rotation representing the IndexU script and phpLynx script. There will be more in due time. There will also be "things" already in progess to promote each and every one of the scripts and contributions from the respective script developers whom have graciously agreed to participate.

Now that I sound like a commerical advertisement for my site...that was not my intention. My point is...as the new owner, you will see no partiality to any script. I actually own one or more -Purchased- copies of each of the well known scripts. As for the forum users...what they run, want to talk about, etc....is completely their business and each is more than welcome to do such in a civilized manner.

Thanks and for the record, you have a nice directory....and no, I have never submitted sites to your directory so I "personally" can not comment on whether it is good or bad to do so. :)

"blatently self-serving and far from community-supporting." - When money is involved this will always be the case and make no mistake about it ALL this fighting and arguing is ALL about money but hey it sorta makes the world go round.

"Interesting idea, but, again are we talking only those who are using the same scripts aka friends or everyone here? This is a great idea and one I would support were it done across scripts and "friendships"." - In a perfect world I guess that would be true but you can't blame David for promoting these 'friendships' within the niche of phpld users, he wants his business to grow and flourish, nothing wrong with that.

The way I understand David's message is that we can accomplish more as a united community spreading the word of directories being a good investment rather than spending our time fighting.

That was me onlinedude before TC took over the forum and I stick by my words. I dont think that Aviva is worth the price or do I think its an 'authority' but it doesnt mean I am bias against or for it. Im not one for kissing ass or cheesing up to anyone, you get it straight from me full stop.

Sorry if I didnt quite fit into the Aviva fan club, its a great directory and I have admiration for the work put in but you wont change my mind on it, there is no way is it an authority or is it worth the fee to get listed.

As for Directory-Owners it is probably one of the only impartial places around and Tom is going to keep it that way, we want all directory owners come over not just one script.

Just thought Id help put the record straight on that one. No offence was meant by my view on Aviva onlinedude, you got to take the rough with the smooth like everyone else and I am entitled to my opinion just like you are.

Good idea/Bad idea. Why? because I feel that it will alienate other directory owners that might not have enough power or resources or might not always agree with the head snake or bully. I feel that there is already such an "association" going on around and it is not looking good.

You may be right there. It was just an idea I had. I also agree that some of the behavior we have seen around here is very lacking. It is possible to compete and make friends at the same time. And when you want to compete, why not do it with deeds? (not words) Go make the best directory, or do the best promoting, or make the coolest design, or an innovative mod. Compliment others for what they have done, and also feel good about what you have contributed, but I wish people would stop complaining about each other so much, and get back to work. I have spent years working on this (since 2001 or 2002). I went the first 3-4 years making nearly zero. It did not come overnight. I have lots of work to do as well.

Cool. You're entitled to your opinion. But when you run a forum, and you start a thread singling out a particular directory, you are speaking for the forum as a whole.

Search Engine Journal, probably the leading Search Engine blog, and one of the few which Matt Cutts reads, states that Aviva is 1 of the 10 best directories:
    http://www.searchenginejournal.com/guide-to-link-buying-directories-ads-and-reviews/4399/

Many other prominent members of the search community have publicly gone on record stating the same thing.

Also, October 25, 2006 you wrote me (after I helped you once again):
So, it is a bit shocking that shortly afterwards you're starting a thread saying my site isn't worth it. If that's what you thought, why were you constantly asking me for help? Wouldn't it have made sense to get help from directories that are worth submitting to?
