Working Well with Others

I know that conflicts come about sometimes, but I just wanted to take the time to say a few words about working with others. Forgive me for being a philosopher.

Sometimes when there is a conflict, it is possible to turn it into something positive for both parties. And the way that process begins is by talking to one another.

I want to encourage everyone to make friends around here. PM each other. See how you can work together to produce results that help each other. Talk to lots of people, not just a few. If you make a lot of friends, surely, one person that doesn't agree with you will not have a great affect, if you have already created some good friendships.

So please don't turn this into a complaining thread. Instead, I ask, how can we work better with others and together attain a wider degree of success?

It applies to everything really, know your boundaries and avoid conflict. Why do something that you know will spark conflict? Some things are better left alone.

Respect is the fundamental ingredient in business relationships.

Sometimes one can provoke someone past the point of talking.

Sometimes one should talk before provoking a conflict.

    Thanks Brian

In business the astute don't enter into conflict with others they integrate to make a more powerful and progressive alliance which usually reciprocates by more business all the way round, and that includes co-orporating with direct competitors

Regretably many who post on these threads have little or no acumen but it makes it much more profitable on all fronts if they would interact more as a opposed to going onto the attack which again has an end result which over 90% of the time is negative

Its not rocket science but it is most of the time
    Common Sense :)

    Thanks David for the OP

teamwork is one of the most important things to me. No man is an island. Networking is one of the main reasons I am here. There are always some assholes who are just there for themselves, but at the end of the day, when they need someone's help, they may wind up standing there alone and getting a taste of their own medicine.

I recognize that some will not appreciate what I said. I don't pretend to have some immense knowledge that others do not possess. I just feel that we could all have so much more if we could learn to communicate with each other more effectively.

I do know that often what seems like a conflict can be turned into something positive that benefits both parties. We need to try to work toward building more from less, rather than fighting over what we have now. There truly is a ton more we can do with directories.

Directories are for organizing information, much like our larger counterparts like Google and Yahoo. Already, there is talk in the google forum about google dominating the way information is organized and controlling everything. We need to get to work carving out our own way to organized information. Together, we can do it, and there is much to be gained.

Please start thinking about how we can contribute toward the betterment of each other. Let's find some new sources of enthusiasm, and starting creating.

I applaud your sincereity Mr.David but it not working. What if somebody copy your paid version and offer it for free fro public use. When your earnings or investment gets low from actual $10000 a month to nothing at present would you say the same way your saying it now ?

Misato, I have already dealt with this sort of thing, and thanks to some of the friendships I have developed, this has become an unlikely scenario for a number of reasons. This is not something that happened overnight. It is the culmination of work that began as early as 2001.

very good point brought here, but you see thats just a fact of life ...

i mean Micorosoft was doing so good but now they come up with Mac and Apple stuff.... so it does lower their revenue but u know you have to keep innovating because market will catch up to you..

I understand what you are saying because i won't be happy if someone take my template and remove the designer link and sponsor link because all they did was edit css and change the code .... but if someone clone my template with their own codes and make it a exact copy ... i can't really say anything ... i can just say it looks like my template there because what they did was copy the design i mean its not hard if you are good at photoshop and coding... thts all.

Depends i suppose. How was the "Paid" version evolved, was it created from the scratch or was it re-enginered from another scripts and called it it's own.

Anyone can claim he/she created the codes, but without a patent to back it up, then their is no such's claim. My assumptions is, is that it was modified from an existing codes and made it his or hers.;)

Now my question Mr. David do you and your company support thiese kind of doings ? I know that is very hard to answer but does phpld supports these monsters ? Your company as many know has worked too hard and you the most stand by ethics, standards and principles.

Yes, I hear you clearly. But sadly, people who do things like this usually fail to get very far, so I can't emphasize enough how important building friendships and a good reputation can be. We need to spend more time working with each other, and I am sure that these types of acts of copying and backstabbing, will be short term annoyances, and little more in a majority of cases.

There are often people that come for a quick buck, but there are others that are in it for the long term. People need to decide their goals, as well as demonstrate their honestly and good will toward others. Sometimes honest people get shafted, but over time, it is the honest people with a consistent and thoughtful approach that win.

People that are part of the phpLD community at large are expected to build a reputation of honesty and good will. As a community we have been successful in solving many issues. I learned a long time ago that I cannot be everywhere and see everything, but I also learned that there is a lot of power in community, and when people do bad things, the community knows and judgements are made. And when people do good things, they often benefit very well as a result.
