Hi all, I heard about "NOODP" tag recently but i dont understand its working properly and its usage. How ll it be benefial, Whats the use of it, we should use it in our MetaTags or not because there is some kind of controversy behind this? Please guide me and tell me your views and experience about its working. Thanks & Regards,
If your site is listed in DMOZ, sometimes google will list it using the DMOZ title. If you have the title set to "Potatoes", but DMOZ lists it as "Crappy potato site", you will probably want to use the NOODP tag so that Google lists it with the "Potatoes" title.
i put this on my sites last week , and google still using DMOZ title, hopefully it will change this week to the one i made
infonote: this tag was introduced recently so it's not surprising many are still unaware of this one.
whatever you do, don't copy and paste the code above as is into your pages. Try this one: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> don't know where those quotes up above came from, but i honestly believe google sure doesn't like them. i could possibly be wrong, but take it from me, little peon, i have a site sitting on the google sidelines right now after copy/paste that exact code into my site. if anyone is to prove me wrong, i would be happy take back my statement. i just don't know what else it could have been.
yeah, <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> is the right code and its also working for me. Its working for both google and msn and now search engines are taking page title and description instead of dmoz.
Does it work in conjunction with the current "robots" tag or does it replace it? Should I keep this tag: <META name="Robots" content="All"> and add: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> OR Replace the "All" tag with the "NOODP" Thanks, DEL
