I received an email today from a marketing manager at a prominent retailer in my niche asking about advertising on my site. So far I've only used Google AdSense, so I know very little about working directly with advertisers. I want to make sure I don't end up giving away too much ad space for too little money, so I want to read up on it now. I will search this forum and on Google for advice, but I know how hard it is to get to the best resources right away. Can anyone offer your own tips on how to handle this kind of advertising, or point me to the best places to read about it? Thanks!
well what i would do is first off if you have area that isn't being utilized think if you could monitize it with this partner of if the person would like to advertise in place of the google spots just make sure you are making more form them then you were from google.
If you have no idea where to start, and need time to research, it may be best to request the advertiser to make you an offer based on what they want.
it would be nice to make $5 per 1000 impressions you give him. Though on the internet, $1 per 1000 seems to be the ceiling. Basically, it depends on the product. Example: If the advertiser makes $50 per sale, and you charge him $100, you can say: "If you make just 2 sales from my site you will break even. Everything after that is total profit for you." If your audience is more likely to purchase his product, then they are more valuable. Example: Advertiser sells men's suits. Your audience is 95% women. Not a good fit. But if your audience is 95% men... then you can work with that!
