Wordtracker Wrong Results?

I use a keyword tool based off of wordtrackers results, I recently found a term that supposedly gets searched for 400 times a day, I rank 1 in yahoo and bing nothing from google so far.
I haven't seen any traffic some in from yahoo or bing from this search term, I should at least be seeing a few if wordtracker's results are accurate. How much should I trust wordtracker? Any suggestions to what might be going on here?

wordtracker free version is way off and you should not be counting on it. use google adwords external keyword tool instead

I use a paid keyword research tool from SEOBook, it pulls its numbers from Wordtracker though, sometime I'll double check against google adwords keyword tool.

    Hi NYSkyline,

I'm Mal and I work with Wordtracker Customer Support.

I think you may be suffering under a slight misconception (and you're by no means alone in this) that the free keywords tool at Wordtracker presents daily counts. This was the case at one point, but if you click the small question mark at the top of the Search count columnt next to the word 'Searches', you'll see the following message appear:

'Searches' is the number of times that the keyword has been searched for in our partner search engines in the US over the last 365 days.

The search counts you see represent just under 1% of US search for the past 365 days and the database is updated daily, so what you're seeing is that that particular search was made 400 times in our catchment in the past 365 days. It's not a daily count.

You're wise, however, to use a separate tool for verification - many of our subscribed customers also do this, as the more sources you can use for keyword research (within reason) the better.

I hope this is of some help, but do give us a shout if you have any other questions.

    All the best,

    Mal
