Wordtracker and Overture numbers mean exactly what?

I mean, I type in a word and on Wordtracker and it comes up with as much as 9000 and Overture as much as 11000. Does that mean these are 'basically' the number of times this word is searched for on a daily basis? I'm sure these numbers are nothing to bet the farm on but what can safely be interpreted by these findings?

Sorry for such a simple question, but as I am new to this I'd like to learn as much as possible. A friend told me about this forum and said this was the place to meet very knowledgable people that are also very helpful.

    Thanx,
    :)

Their about how many times those keyphrases have been searched for. Their supposed to be helpful when determining your keywords to go after. Overture shows more searches because they pull from more sources, but I also heard their not very accurate because they combine "similar" search terms (like chat and chats) into one result.

So, wordtracker shows less but I'm told is more accurate. But, then again some folks say neither is very accurate. Not to mention, they won't tell you the competition for those keywords either.

mdvaldosta - Thanx for the answer. Just as I thought, a decent number to use as a bench mark but not much more.

Is there a way to find out what the competition is for those keyowrds? If so where can I go to find out?
