Words in Plural or Singular?

Most of the times I see that google offers different results for a term if you put it in plural or in singular...normally the result pages alternate each other in the content, so I was wondering...What´s the reason for this? Is the anchor text? The content of the pages of the backlinks?

    Thanks for your comments!

you should use the word tracer, some keywords are plural and some are singular.

They are treated as different words. Google will look at all the things that they normally would for a keyphrase.
