Well, wordpress is definitely the best option in the seo point of view.

You can control your site more and also optimize more with various wordpress plugins such as the All In One SEO Pack

Hey oz: I'm glad. you posted this question. I was just going to ask a similar type of question.

I use Wordpress for a phpBay site(www.hyperplanet.com) and my own blog(www.davidwaymire.com). I've been thinking about building a local directory for businesses in my area. Do you guys think Wordpress would be a good choice for something like this as well? I could created a hierarchy of categories and have a posting either for each business or a group of similar businesses. I can add a community calendar with EventCalendar 3.0 plug-in.

I know there are other non-blog type of CMS systems, but is Wordpress actually better?

It really makes no difference. Having WordPress (or any other blogging platform) being used as a regular content management system won't make a lick of difference since search engines treat them the same way as other Web sites (and let's face it, a blog is a form of Web site, but one with lots of content that's updated frequently).

Rather than looking into the "SEO benefits" (which there are none of) of either setup (static HTML or a blog/CMS), ask yourself how much time you can save by using a CMS (or converting a blog like WordPress to a content management system) to manage your Web site for you, then go from there.
