    Hi,

I would like to build a lifestyle website with sub-categories such as: entertain, fashion, art, music, travel, book...

    1. Please advice me if I should build it with Wordpress or Drupal?

    2.

Below are 4 directory style websites I took as examples, please advice me what kind of template do I need to look for ( magazine style, directory style? ), any recommended template provider?

We at Indiespring use Drupal over wordpress for sites such as these as we find it more flexible and better adaptable particularly when displaying, filtering and sorting multiple content types, especially with advanced taxonomies. Your mileage may vary but for more complex stuff we suggest Drupal.

My opinion is Word press. Because, it’s so easy to publish and update your content. You can update your website from any computer, anywhere in the world and multiple users can work on your site simultaneously.

WordPress is going to be much easier for you to learn and is all you need for content management.
As far as themes go, you should probably look for a magazine theme.

Drupal has a steeper learning curve. It's more extendable than Wordpress but you will probably end up spending a lot of time learning how to set up features you will never use.

A note about WordPress security issues: If you follow the installation instructions carefully, you should be fine. Take a close look at the comments in wp-config when you are setting it up. Visit the URL that it recommends to get new site keys and salts. Paste that into your wp-config file, use a password that is not obvious and you should be fine.

Wordpress is the most search engine optimized platform. It automatically links the pages and if you consider doing any form of SEO, Wordpress is your choice :)

What I started doing for myself is custom building my own platforms in Ruby on Rails. I find Wordpress works well, but need features that only Drupal has. Having tried Drupal as well, I can't get it to do what I want within a reasonable timeframe without having to hire out to get the CMS to do something that should be simple to do...

I run a web design company and I prefer wordpress over drupal, but thats just me. In my past I have noticed clients have a lot easier time using wordpress over drupal. thats from my experience

My goal is to build a magazine/curation style website, with different sub-categories such as fashion, art, music, entertainment, music and etc... and with membership area and a forum for interaction, what would you recommend? Much appreciated!

That seems to be the reason between Drupal and Wordpress debate, as Drupal is more flexible and powerful, but with a steep learning curve unless you are equipped with developer skill...

I agree with your decision, your decision is absolutely right. As we know that both are very important but as per my opinion you must go with Wordpress.

If you have a web app, or any type of web project that requires user permissions, Drupal’s functionality is hardier than WordPress. Drupal is also more flexible when it comes to API development and its default caching features are more robust out of the box.
