Can someone recommend some plugins I need to run an ecommerce website. I have been building blogs since 2008 with wordpress but this is my first time building an ecommerce website.

On the WooCommerce site they have an entire section of plugins that you may or may not need. It really depends on the features you want, as WooCommerce takes care of all the basic E-commerce features already...

Focus on security as well, Limit Login, WordFence, Akismet, etc.

Thank you, could you provide a list of plugins you use for security?

I like Bulletproof, WordFence, Limit Login, and Akismet. They are the one's I've had the most experience with and I haven't had any security issues on any of the sites I've set up. Akistmet blocks a lot of junk, Limit Login is good to prevent brute force attacks and either Bulletproof or WordFence for firewall/anti-virus. I like how Wordfence provides you with detailed information on those who try to login so you can really monitor what's going on.

Nice, I added these to my website; Akismet, Limit Login, and WordFence. Thanks again.

If you're selling a few items, try playing around with gumroad (https://gumroad.com/). With a few lines of javascript code (I am assuming you have a wordpress.org site) you can overlay a really beautiful ecommerce page on wordpress and they can purchase directly through your site (no re-direction).
