Wordpress Trackbacks

I receive more than 40 trackbacks to my new posts, I delete most of them and remove the unrelated links but Is there any advantage to allow trackbacks on my blog?
Or is it better if I just disable the whole thing?

My wordpress blog is in my signature.

I must suggest that you disable these services because so many users do spamming through this. SO better remove these services if your content is good then obviously you will receive a nice traffic...

Hmm, I thought that it creates a network between the related websites.
Ok then which one is better? Removing the links but remaining what it is written on the trackback (1-2 sentence only) or disabling it completely?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

It doesn't really create a network as the links are probably set as nofollow.

Instead of disabling them, I added a separate section for trackbacks and pingbacks below my comments, wrapped it in a div with display: none style

    Yep,

There are plugins out there that revert this behavior.

In my blog, I use Akismet anti-spam plugin to prevent this trackback abuse.

Maybe it works for you too.

angelomaniac and ohokifer, I am already using Akismet plugin for my wordpress blog, actually most of the trackbacks are not spam, they really show my link in their related stories, thats why I dont want to disable the plugin. So do you think that is bad for SEO ?

If most of your trackbacks are not spam than you definately have a popular blog.

Trackback is a good thing, for example your write a post about Single player feature in Starcraft 2, one of your friends write a post about multiplayer feature of starcraft 2, but in the introduction he wants to tell something about the single player feature but not too much. He will link to your post.

When someone reads your post and he get to the end, he likes your blog so he will want to read more, he will try to read related post but they are not always too related. He want to continue the reading about the same thing. And post who links to your posts are very related. It is logical that after he read something about single player feature he will want to read something about multi player feature in the same game, and not about other game. You provide him content that he wants.

Talking about SEO, you may lose the link juice from that link if you link back, causing link exchange.

That was a well, detailed explanation! Thank you:)
So I see that in any way it is better to remove the links but there is no harm to remain the trackbacks themselves
