is there a wordpress theme or plugin out there that would allow users to create their own sites using a standard template? an example would be a standard template for real estate agents and agents would be able to create their own account and get their own version of the template to call their own site.. or another example would be for a clickbank product and users would be able to create their own squeeze page if they signed up.. i've seen these in many different applications but not using wordpress.
Yes. It is totally possible. That is what WordPress does. WordPress con be configured to run multiple sites where you can let users register and create their own as a folder, subdomain, or using their own personal registered domains. You can give them access to as many themes as you want them to have access to, limit it to just one. You can create a custom theme for your network, the same as you would for you personal site. You can make it free of paid. You can run it with BuddyPress, the community plug in. You can run it as a membership site. There's a crap load of ways it can be configured
No, you don't have to use BuddyPress. To create a network: http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network Membership Plug in: http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/membership Pay to blog: http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/pay-to-blog
I was going to suggest Wordpress MU (multi-user) but I didn't even realize that this isn't a separate product after 3.0. The Create a Network link looks to be just about the same thing.
thanks - i'm trudging my way through it now.. little bit of a long learning curve but i'm sure it will be worth it..
