Hi All, I just purchased a Themify theme for Wordpress called Notes and it's extremely slow to load the front page...if i revert back to standard wordpress theme it loads before i can even count to one...whereas the Themify theme will take ~5-10 seconds to load! I've been reading around the net about themes in wordpress and it seems like this is a common issue with themes like these due to them having so much customisation set on them and loaded with tons of unnecessary css everywhere? Anyway i have tried cache plugins to no avail and have basically got my blog to a point where im happy with it - though im not ready to make it live untill i iron out this loading time issue which will more than likely scare away visitors!....Will i need to hire a professional to help me speed up the template or is this something you guys can help with? Any help much appreciated! Thank You
Actually, slowness is NOT common with well coded WordPress themes no matter how many customizations they have. It could be many things form a poorly coded theme. Plug ins. To hosting. But if you are saying it's the theme, it may not be worth fixing if it's poorly coded. It'll probably cost more hours than just building a new theme from scratch or buying a new one. Or it could just be one or two things. No way to know without seeing it. How about a link to the site so we can see what you are talking about and stop guessing?
Try downloading the YSlow plugin for either Firefox or Chrome. It will give you an overview of why your site is slow. You can also try a cache plugin like w3cache. If you need more help, let me know.
Thanks here's the biggest complaint by YSLow....Is this bad? more importantly can it be fixed? This page has 16 external Javascript scripts. Try combining them into one. This page has 11 external stylesheets. Try combining them into one. This page has 18 external background images. Try combining them with CSS sprites.
The best WP theme for SEO, speed, simplicity, and Google-friendly is Thesis. Use that theme. You can do nothing with your theme unless you know how to rewrite their CSS. Success for you.
The template could be loaded with tons of images or your webhost is returning data slowly. You may want to review your template for any excess images that you probably won't need.
The theme might have poorly coded and using graphics designs for which it is delaying in loading. You can use a best thesis theme which are available free in WP.
Try this tool to see how long your website take to finish loading: www.webpagetest.org. The post the URL to the result so we can look at it.
It could also be your internet connection. Download WP cache plugin in to speed up the loading times for your website.
