    Hi All

I am using some SEO spy software to see how a website - www.vcars.co.uk are getting so many backlinks. I have noticed they have created a WP template, its a nice Lamborghini Car one. Looks good.

    If you google:

"The Lamborghini WP Theme is provided by VCars - Used Cars Made Easy"

You will see all the sites using this - at the footer of each template they have the hyperlink to their site, with all rights reserved....

This sounds like a great way for SEO and backlinks. How would you go about creating a WP blog template other businesses could use for free...?

    Thanks
    Rob

Well it's up to your skills / the skills of your tech team if you have any... If you don't and you are not that used in PHP and WordPress programming, find a freelancer.
You might also need a designer - if you want your template to be heavy-used you have to have a nice designed one.
Than upload to wordpress and some directories - you don't have to upload it to all, anyhow they will find it.

Yes, actually that's what you called "Template Sponsorship". You can create themes or you can find people who created themes and looking for sponsors. It's really good for SEO because if the theme is very good and attractive then many websites will be using it. And also the links will niche-related which are also good in SEO.

Found a site today with some pretty cool free templates. So I felt like playing around with Turbo Flex Pro Theme Master - WordPress Edition and made some sample WordPress blogs.

    Night Club Sample WordPress Blog

    Fashion Hut Sample WordPress Blog

Got the free templates over at Free Website Templates.com and just imported them into Theme Master.

Took about 2 hours to do both sample blogs.

Maybe you could do the same thing for what you are doing. Theme Master works VERY well for turning regular templates into full blown WordPress blog themes.

    The possibilities are endless.

Yeah but ... it just copies the graphics and layout over.

Then you still have to script the thing. Does this create the templates for header, footer, sidebar, single, page, blog, archive, etc.?

One problem I would have using this is that if you have a standard way of laying out your theme, it would conflict with your theme framework. You would either have to go back and adjust your layout, or adjust the framework that builds the layout. Either way, you are into more time.

The easier, more efficient approach is to just migrate the sample theme directly into your framework to begin with.

One thing that would make this product pique my interest is if it could migrate the sample theme over to a TwentyTen child theme. That would actually be beneficial, and worth the money IMO.

Theme Master does every bit of what you are saying automatically. It only takes a few minutes to pull a template into Theme Master and turn it into a fully widgetized WordPress blog.

Check out the videos about it here: http://wordpressthememaster.com/videos/TFPTMDemoPart1.html where I convert an XSitePro template.

Kewl. I will take your word for it. Looks interesting.

I am just set in my ways, I guess. But like I said, if it made TwentyTen child themes, I may take a closer look at it. Heck, maybe some other set-in-there-ways kind of guys/gals may look at it also.

That would be like making Thesis a child theme of Twenty ten. Why would you want a child theme when you can have a self supporting main theme?

You get more flexibility with themes that aren't child themes of other themes. You aren't locked in to the limitations of the parent theme. Hope that made sense.

I can think of a number of reasons of using the TwentyTen, or basing your self-supporting theme from it:

    1. For a common starting point that has all of the WP features built into it (menus, background, thumbnails, etc.)

    2. Standardized layout that everyone should be more familiar with, rather than have the original theme dictate the layout OR the converting software dictate the layout. From what I saw of the markup on your two sample sites, you had to learn YOUR layout.

    3. When upgrades warrant a change to the TwentyTen, the underlying child-theme is automatically upgraded.

This is only what I can gather from looking at it from the front. The real deal is the back, and that I can not comment on.
