Hey, I was wondering whether there is some way, using wordpress.org, that I could display in my sidebar a "Previous Posts" section and a "Popular Posts" section to improve navigation of my blog. At the current time Wordpress only allows me to put in a "Categories", "Archives", and "Links" section. See for yourself here Also, how would I go about breaking up my links section into say four sections: "Arsenal Links", "Other Links", "Affiliates" & "Partner Sites"?? Thanks, in advance.
You'll have a lot more options for your sidebar if you install the widgets plugin for WP: http://automattic.com/code/widgets/ As for the links, you have to put them into categories and then find a widget or plugin that displays the categories with your links or blogroll.
Just install the recent posts plugin to help with navigation. There's probably plugins for the things you mention as well.
STRUGGLING!! I can't seem to get the Wordpress Sidebar Widget working. Is it because my theme is not widget friendly?? Would someone answer that question?
You don't need a widget-ready theme to do what you're asking. Try the following plugins out: Recent Posts Plugin: http://mtdewvirus.com/code/wordpress-plugins/ Recent Comments Plugin: http://mtdewvirus.com/code/wordpress-plugins/ Most Commented Plugin: http://mtdewvirus.com/code/wordpress-plugins/
Tried them out and got the last two working HOWEVER - they are extremely ugly on the page. Not enough control over them I don't think
You may have to adjust the size and pixels on your style index. They should be uniformed, make sure something else is not throwing off the formatting. Like a banner add, or something like that ,
They're formatted ok - they just look poor. They're in bullet form and I just think it looks very very average.
I am unable to get those sidebars can you please give more information... can I place sitemap.xml to my sidebar link set
What version of Wordpress are you using? The latest 2.2 has sidebar widget built in. If you didn't need a reason to upgrade anyway, this may be it.
If you are running the latest version of WP, you will have the widget option under the Presentation tab. Every template has it now.
Perfect. Will download that for sure when I get home from work. This is great news - I am very confident that having these widgets will improve my "bounceback" and "time on site" statistics. Thanks very much.
