Great observations and advice. I also agree with Angus as well. I am trying to apply or already have done many of these steps both of you brought up.

Yes, %postname% will do if you can guarantee titles will not be duplicated. I always err on the side of caution and include the post id too just to gurantee the uniqueness of the title. :)

When using the <!-- more --> tag, remember you're creating unnecessary duplicate content. You're actually creating 2 pages with the same content. I tend to steer clear of this and usually only have a couple of posts with a static page present on the home page as well.

<!-- more --> tag is used to stop unnecessary duplicate content.
I personally don't recommend use of static page on the home page unless your site is a big one like that of problogger.net. New posts need some exposer and when search engines see the links to new posts on the home page itself, they index them without much thinking.

Comments: Find the comment field in your template (Main page). Add "rel=nofollow" to it. Or use the plugin posted in the thread.

Archeive: What I have done, is that I've created a static page called Archeive. And then linked to the different months. I've blocked the different categories. There are no need to have both. Because the text remains the same, only difference is the URL.

Block the Rss feed. Some times, your RSS feeds gets higher rankings then your main articles.

Use the <more> tag in posts, to avoid different rss sites to take all your content.
: By that i mean that you should (more tags) cut off the post. Do not show the whole post on the frontpage. And make sure that your Rss also cut off the post. Otherwise, If I want to scrape your post, I will get the whole content.

Depending on the template, you can also change the visual <read more...> to permalink to your actual post. But in my case, I already have to links pointing at the article from every post i write.

I found this post because I noticed hits coming to my KB Robots.txt plugin from this thread.

For blog SEO purposes, you might also find my KB Linker plugin helpful for beefing up internal cross-linking.

An earlier post in this thread mentioned that once posts fall off the recent posts list, they may not have anything linking to them. The linker plugin can solve that for you. For example, if you wrote a post about cows, you could ensure that every time you used the word "cows" in a post elsewhere on your blog (even on previously written posts), "cows" would link back to that masterful post you wrote.

Unfortunately, I can't give the link here since this is my first post and the site doesn't allow noobs to give live links. But if you google "kb linker" you should find it.

After you find it, you could even put a link here for others to use if you wanted to. :)
