Wordpress SEO - should the Logo Banner also be a text link?

I noticed that when all CSS is removed, my site doesn't display the Banner (obviously), so I put a text link back to the home with my keywords (which is also the site name) to display for search engines and for non-graphic readers.

Now that this link is there, the first link on every page of my site is my keyword and return link to the home page. It's not an H1, but it's bold.

Is this good for SEO or overdoing it? I'm not sure what the best practice is here, but I heard it was good to have your keyword first. I just don't want it to reduce the weight of other pages h1 tag or the more specific topic pages.

No, bold doesn't do anything anymore. Put your best keyword in title/h1. In regards to your banner image, put in a link with the anchor text of a related keword, that'll serve as a text link for the image while you also get credit for the keyword.jpg itself

If your domain is a keyword domain, this coud be a good alternative to use a text link.

You can use google web fonts, if you like a nicer styling...

Thanks everyone. I think I should clarify.

On my wordpress site, I have a banner across the top.

If CSS is on, you cannot see the text link. It is only for accessibility or those who don't use css. It's an anchor that acts like the header if you don't have grpahics, but it uses my most important keyword.

The h1 for each page always includes the keywords.
    The url does as well.

So, it's use is twofold 1) for the blind and 2) In general I thought if I made an anchor (with my keyword) at the top pointing back to my homepage, it might help with SEO <--is that true?

Ah okay, I think this is getting close to my answer. So...my site domain is ecsimplified.com, but the keywords (for EC) are Elimination Communication. If you turn off CSS it looks like this:

Icon (This is where the Logo is normally)
Elimination Communication | Infant Potty Training <--this link normally does not show (only for blind readers and mabye search engines). It's bold.

    Testimonials
    Videos
    Gear
    FAQ
    Forum

Elimination Communication: Ditch the Diapers <--- This is the H1 tag and is the location where all of them are under the menu.

    HERE's another page

    Icon
Elimination Communication | Infant Potty Training

Why Dr. Sears is Wrong About Diaper Rash <--- This is the H1 tag and is the location where all of them are under the menu. <--h1 Tag

So normally, Elimination Communication | Infant Potty Training is not necessarily on the top of the page, but should it be like I have it? OR, should I change my Page Titles to "Topic | Elimination Communication"
