Alright I've been reading http://www.toddw.info/ultimate-wordpress-seo-guide/ http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529139&page=2 and some other sources. None really touch up on the sidebar, so I'm asking whats the best widgets to have for the sidebar. Right now I have the following in this order: Recent Posts Category Archives Top Commenters Also as I noticed there are 3 archives, I'm using the Archives so google and crawl them should I put /tags/ in the robots.txt? because I already blocked the "/category/"
Well... I personnally chose to let Google crawl the categories, and not the tags neither the archives, because it's the categories which are the most pertinent to a theme, normally. Anyway, it really depends of how your blog is structured. For example, if you have a new blog with a lot of tags, and a small number of posts, you should put the tags in no index, so that there is no duplicate content. If your tags are overlapping your categories, the same. But in case of a blog with a lot of posts, a few distinct categories and very different tags, I see no problems in letting Google crawl all three
Do you think the categories are more seo then the archives and the tags? I mean the categories contain keywords in them also which can help a lot unlike the archives. I think I'll go with the categories and block the tags and remove the archives because of duplicate content.
Good choice there, just remember to take notes on how it works, and then in 2 months you can always switch up what the bot's crawl.
You can have your tags and archives, just make sure the search engines don't see them by blocking them via your robots.txt file.
