Hi, been asked by somone to update a website for a local school. Would it be allowed by the UK Gouvernment for that school's website to be done in wordpress? Thanks, Ben.
To the best of my knowledge "the govenment" doesnt set standards for school websites and each school is free to make their own decisions. Looking through the state school's websites under the control of my old county council they are all being powered by different CMSs, some PHP others .Net, which supports they are independantly created. In general there is concern with OpenSource solutions in corporations/ public sector because of the security vunrabilities they represent (dont want to start a flame war argument on the topic, its been done to death) and therefore you may find guidelines suggest they only use closed source or bespoke solutions. You may also want to check what their requirement on suppliers is, I would expect them to require that you carry a certain minimum in at least professional indemnity insurance if not also public liability or possibly product liability.
