Wordpress Question: difference between "deleting" and marking as "spam"

I have been getting a lot of spam comments in my wordpress blog and I was just wondering if it was better to mark a comment as "spam" or to "delete" it? Do they just do the same thing?

and... while we are on the topic of comments, I would really like a few "real comments" on my blog so if you have time check out my premiumposts.com blog and leave a comment. I will make sure and do the same for you! :)

I would imagine that marking it as spam would see Wordpress automatically mark it as spam for you next time? To be honest I haven't a clue but wanted to have a guess before someone much more intelligent comes along and answers it for me ;)

Of course you could install a plugin that stops spam dead in its tracks. I'd reccommend Spam Karma 2. Works a treat for me.

And upon clicking on your blog, I notice that you're using the same template as me although mine's been customized ever so slightly! Small world.

Litreally, deletion means, to remove a comment from a blog. Whereas spam means that it considers the comment as spam, make note of the user who commented on it, and make sure it doesn't come back again.

II'm not sure if it's the same case on wordpress.
But it wud be better to select them as spam. Maybe it does help!

If you mark it as spam it stays in the your wordpress system but isn't live. Your spam comments can build up and clog your server over time if you don't delete them. I suggest you install the spam karma plugin to deal with spam. It will delete spam comments after a set period of time so it doesn't clog your server.

If you turn the akismet plugin on, it will mark the spam for you, then automatically delete it 15 days later. In the meantime, you can browse the spam for any false positives.
