yes you can remove it, however for the sake of supporting open-source software i would at minimum link to it on at least a links page.
Why removing it while any starter webmaster can recognize the script from the first glance ? Of course regular visitors won't care what script are you using on your site as most of them won't know what is the difference between a php script and windows media player
