    I was just wondering that giving tags for the post helps increasing google search rankings ?

    NOTE:- Blogger don't have tags.

    It has helped my site greatly and infact some tag pages outrank the post page.
    Although it does create duplicate pages - I have had no negative affects...

    I have all my categories listed as supplemental results in SERP and I tried everything to optimize it( unique titles, description, keywords) but still same thing. Some of my competitors have all categories listed outside of supplemental result and ranking high in results, even better then posts. What am I missing?
    I would appreciate any suggestion, even the wildest one!

    use tags in wordpress its a must thing.it gives google the keywords to rank you well.and also your site will appear for variety of keywords you put in tags.so its a must also you suggested tags too.

    Can be helpful if used properly, but if you have a lot of tags associated to single page then you might get duplicate content penalty.

    I saw this thread yesterday and did not really have an opinion on the issue so I did not post a reply. Well, yesterday afternoon I was looking through google and found a self hosted wordpress blog post because of the tag. The author of the blog had used a tag with almost my exact search term. Google thought enough of the tag to rank it on the first or second page out of several million results.

    So my answer is yes. Putting the right tags on your post can help your site rank well in google.

    Yeah, I will add tags effectively. One more thing. I already have a meta on the blog. With keywords and description about the site.

    Is there possibility of getting penalty or something like that. Also maximum tags characters are 255 i think. Does it contains spaces too ?
