Wordpress Post Question

How do I make a cutoff line for the number of sentences or lines for all my posts?

Right now, the whole post is being showed from the categories page, and I don't really like that, because the posts are very long and it would take a lot of browsing to find a certain post.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Great, thanks a lot for the help. If anyone knows other ways, that will also be appreciated.

Also, another question: How do I get rid of some of the links in the "Meta" block? The one that has links that say, "Register", "Login", "Valid XHTML", "XFN", and "Wordpress"?

Specifically, I want to get rid of the "Valid XHTML" and "XFN" links, can anyone help?

you can edit your template .

log in go to control panel -> presentation -> theme editor

usualy you can find those in the sidebar.php

or index.php depend on how the template is made .

    good luck .

Thanks again for the help. :)

I have one last question for now. Is there any way that I can "bump" up older posts so that they become the most recent post?

humm such thing don't exist (from what i know)

what you can do is change the time stamp .

but if ur url is based on date (Ex : 04/06/2007/topic ) it's bad to do so , because the link will change and the old will be gone from Search engines ..

I was going to suggest changing the time stamp also. You could change the permalinks so the date isn't reflected in the url.

I also believe there's a plugin that can repost older posts on a regular basis. I'm not sure how the permalinks are handled though. It does move the last post up and posts it as new and the second to last post is put in draft for the next day. Kind of keeps the blog looking like it's updated every day. You probably should have a lot of posts already so that visitors won't see the same post for awhile.

Hmm, okay, I guess I'll search for that plugin. Changing the time stamp doesn't seem to work so well.

Sorry, another question just popped into my head!

Is there any way that people can comment on the "Pages" posts? Like, right now, if I write a post, there's no option that says "comment" or anything. Can that be changed somehow?

Is the moving of the last post something you want done on a regular basis or just this one time?

As for the comment on the "pages" I'm not sure I follow. Under every post I have a place for comments. The "pages" are separate sections with different posts.

The plugin is called Lazy Blog. You can find it at Zipped Sites. It's an adult webmaster site that offers easy start up blog and tgp's for the adult industry. The plugin was written for wordpress.

Yeah, on a regular basis, because I usually don't have time to update everyday. Thanks for the link, I'll try it out.

Okay, you know in the Admin Panel, there's the Write section, and then there's a subsection called Write Page. On Pages, there isn't an option to write a comment. So I'm asking if there's any way around that.

Hope I clarified what I'm trying to say. :)

Good luck with the plugin. Remember they're an adult webmaster place. Great stuff there for sure, but understand it's written for a different genre.

The way I see "pages" is that's where you add posts. It's the posts that are commentable (I made up a new word). For example, a page in a magazine is just a place for the articles of interest. Such is the "page" on the blog. It's just a place for posts that can somehow be distinguished from the others. The "home" page is such a page but the comments are for the posts and not the actual page. So I guess to answer your question - I know of no way to add a comment box for "pages" since I don't think there's a need to comment on "pages." I'm not sure if I cleared that up or made it more confusing.

Now, I've added a page to my blog so people can contact me. If that's something you were looking for that's easy - just a separate plugin.

i'd try and use that page break as often as you can, because that generates more page views
