I have started to switch my site at http://www.weight-loss-discovery.com from html format (using XSitePro) to Wordpress format. But, perhaps that was a mistake ? Would it be better to keep my original html site and create a new blog using a subdomain or a new domain based on the same subject and link to the blog from the nav bar in my html site ? I'll have to make the decision to switch back fast because all my old html pages will be 404 page not found soon and if then I'll have to re-direct tons of pages from html url's to the wordpress page addresses. Anyone have any experience with this ? Is it better for traffic and SE's to use both ? Your help and advice is greatly appreciated - I'll have to make changes fast if I'm going to do both.
I would have personally kept the HTML site and built a blog on a sub domain as you can interlink the two for SEO purposes but also for traffic.
Keep the original site intact and create a new blog under subdomain. That way all your SE listing for the original site will stay there and you are buildig more content with your new blog.
I just encountered this problem with a site, and I decided to just put the blog on a subdirectory, not a subdomain, since I've been told that a subdomain is treated as a different entity (an entirely different website) by the SE's.
Okay - I just set up a subdomain, but I don't know why setting up a directory is better ? Since your subdomain url is part of your main domain, are you saying that SE's can't figure out they are part of the same domain - they are separate entities ? For example, here is a new subdomain I just created : www.weight-loss-news.weight-loss-discovery.com If this should notbe used, that what are subdomains used for ?
He is right ...SE..see them as 2 different sites ..I tried the same thing to find out the hard way. Build the blog on the main domain...and Just add to what you have as pages already to the blog (or use a static front page "plugin")..it will keep the sitemap happy with fewer mods.... Some tweekin but it is worth it. Worldpress ..is ..well EASY to cut up ..and look at all the benfits ..SEO ..permalinks ..plugins....and more ..
