Out-of-the-box the URLs are not SEO friendly. You want to make the URLs have your keywords in them. This can be tweaked in your admin area to make the url the same as the post name.

Another thing to look out for is SEO unfriendly themes. This can be a bit more difficult, if you are not familiar with HTML, and have a little bit of PHP knowledge because you have to manually edit the code. A general rule of thumb is: The sloppier the output HTML, the worse the SEO. Many themes are really sloppy, and have a lot of unnecessary code. Also, many of them don't use header tags (h1, h2, h3, etc) properly.

I recommend reading up about on-page-seo, and tweak your code accordingly.

I them may be 100% SEO friendly, that just means valid code, optimal use of H tags etc but the important thing is as soon as you place that theme on Wordpress the score will drop dramatically.

It depends on the situation. For smaller content-based sites (less than 50 pages) I prefer traditional manual creation - meaning, I create an interface in Photoshop, work out a navigational site architecture and make a template in Dreamweaver. Then I generate a bunch of html pages out of that.

Wordpress is great if you are indeed blogging - if you are not going to update content regularly tho, why make a site that Google practically expects will update all the time?

I love wordpress. For a less experienced coder, like me, it allows for a great website that is extremely SEOptimized.

I didn't realize WordPress themes had SEO scores. Where can someone find this information?
