Joomla requires more knowledge of PHP and it doesn't have the support that WordPress does due to the latter having more users. So I prefer WP.

    Another vote for Wordpress.

I've used both Joomla and Wordpress.

Joomla (for me) was not as intuitive to work with. It is "heavy" as far as code goes, and a pain to customize.

Wordpress is more streamlined, and easier to customize. Online support through Wordpress.org is outstanding.

I must agree with everyone here, WP is very user friendly. I have used Joomla but switched because you need to know a little bit of code....blah!

If you are good hands on coding then you can consider Joomla else Wordpress is the best :) It's the most popular and widely used CMS.. comes with huge number of free to use plugins, themes etc...

Seems like people are fond of Wordpress and sometime we feel blind about it. I have been working on WP for last 4 years and has seen its advancement in their regular releases. But when it comes to compare it with another application, let me tell you... you should compare the requirements of your website first. You are dealing with 2 very different platforms. One is built for blogging, another for websites. There are still some differences between the 2.
I know very well about the "Wordpress as a CMS" concept. But there are some features which are easily available out of the box for Joomla but not wordpress and the vice versa. So please refer to your requirements first. If you feel the thing that you are trying to achieve is easy with both, then I will say to go with wordpress for easiness to manage and share. Otherwise applications should be used for what they are built for. For e.g. Joomla inbuilt supports exporting content to PDF, Excel, or print them.

Joomla is more advanced and requires more PHP knowledge, it's also less user-friendly and has a lower install base than WP. I prefer WP.

wordpress and joomla has their own feature. wordpress is more likely to be use to make a blog , easier to use but u cant make a social network by using a wordpress. joomla has lot of module such as community builder to make a social network more complex in control panel and not recommended for blogger.
