Please any comment, I got 2 paid hosting accounts on Netfirms, 750 GB traffic with 20 GB space promised to me for very low price ($10 per YEAR!!! - for first year only of course), pre-installed Wordpress and Joomla. Well, I test it and on both accounts Wordpress search engine friendly URL does not work! Tech. support - very bad, it seems outsourced in pakistan or india, and bad knowledges. They even don't want to look on their own hosting and don't want to make a test Wordpress installation to see the problem. Well, I saw on the WP php, it's Ok, then I copied a part of php from old WP version 1.5 to make .htaccess rewriting instead of URL parsing, WP 2.0 SEO URL started to work on netfirms, but partly only, static pages continue to have problems with SEO URL. It seems the problem is in php variables/envirment limitation or etc. I can't understand. (Joomle on Netfirms uses .htaccess rewriting for SEO URL and it works 100%)
In short what you pay is what you get, how can you expect a good host for 10$ a year with free domains and 750GB Bandwidth? Try to change the host as i guess they dont support mod rewrite which was the same experiance with me with servage which is 75$/year cheap but not worthy. Amit
>>they dont support mod rewrite wrong, they SUPPORT mode_rewrite. They support ALL. Joomla works Ok on SEO URL. send email? he-he-he.. I sent tons and stoped. Stupid tech. support. 10 per year, I was "there is the catch" too. But it seems all works Ok, except WP. I like WP, but it seems must use Joomla instead, this is the payment for 10 per year. :-(
I dont even think about running a site there with mysql thier max sql connection limit is 50 so if 50 people are visiting your site new visitors will see max connection error I highly recommend to stay away from them Saad
I've been using Netfirms for some time now - found they are pretty responsive. This seems to be an issue specifically with running Wordpress on Netfirms. There's a post over at semiologic forums which talks about this, and the solution - Netfirms needs the permalinks to be set up as /index.php/<permalink structure>/ rather than just /<permalink structure>/ http://forum.semiologic.com/discussion/92/problem-with-permalinks/ Try this out, and PM me if you still have an issue. This is odd, no doubt - and I'd agree, netfirms needs to either change their implementation to the normal or train their tech support on this. But this apart, I've found the $10 offer to be extremely good value for money. With 2 domains (new / renewal / transfer) thrown in + decent space / bandwidth, it's a great way to put your parking sites!
Yes, index.php/*** works, stupid and bad looking, and I am hestitate what google thinks about /index.php/*** Will google index such strange structure? Also, I found that Awstats does not work on Netfirms too, it works only on small log files, after 20 MB it stoped to work. Also, some zip files over 1 MB sometimes received with errors or corrupted partly. Also, in compare with other hosting WP and Joomla work significaly slowly. Well, it's Ok for $1 per month, but it's horrible for Netfirm standard $10 per month plans ! :-(
I'm also keeping a close look on this deal for sometime now... And I think the $10 is for 1st year only. After the 1st year, you pay $120/yr.
Yeah that's why they are offering for 10$ first year then pay 120$ for such crappy hosting? Will you pay also you will be billed automatticalled next month unless you ask them to cancel the renewal next month
$10 a year is the cheapest "hosting" I have ever heard! Did you pay them with Paypal? I wouldnt trust them with my CC number.
Hi, You can pay by credit card only that's why they bill you automattically on next year 120$ so better is to stay away from them Saad
I have used netfirms before....it sux big time...the main problem is its DAMn slow.....and their support sux. Try Servage! its very reliable. In the end you get what you pay for i pay 5$ monthly for 750MB space with 15GB bandwidth and the service is fast and reliable with amazing support 22$ yearly for 250MB/5Gb too i always recommend http://www.mazehosting.com to any friend who asks for hosting been with them since feb 2006 with different sites with no single issue i judged their support when i was asking for a migration from shared to reseller hosting and they said that they will deduct the remaining shared hosting subscription from the price of the reseller plan and do the migration for me at no additional cost
well, well, hosting ads started! but how about WP 100% works and no limit on MySQL connections for these super hostings?! uptime?! of course 100%?!
i'm not advertising, i'm not the owner nor this is an affiliate link it's just an honest testimonial - you aren't forced to listen to what i said alternative: check WHT for hundreds of offers - i just want to help
my reasones, netfirms is huge, it says all sites (1M) are on a single super computer. I like this coz if this super computer will be broken all 1 M sites will stop to work and netfirms tech. support will be super forced t make it work again. It's good. I was at surfspeady.com and several times my sites can't work 1-2 and finally 7 days! Surfspeedy tech. support controls hundreds of small PCs/servers and realy has no strong stimules to recover my small $10-$40 per month site! I found it's very anoing for me to post huge amount of tickets and emails to tech. support with 1-2-3 days delay with stupid replies... I hate this! And I hope 1M users realy can f.ck any tech support! That is why I want to find workarounds of bad features of netfirms.
