WordPress new spam killer preventing comments?

Is it just me or has Wordpress gotten crazy aggressive against commenting? I never spam. I only leave meaningful posts on blogs after I've read them. Recently I haven't been able to. When I submit a comment it just goes to a blank white page. I have to use a different email and different IP and even then I can only make one or two comments before the same thing happens.

Has anyone else had this problem recently?

But I'm not spamming. How does this script work? Does it keep tabs on how many blogs you post on, and if you do more than a couple it blocks you? Because I do not leave many comments at all, and my comments are actually well thought out and in response to the posts. Yes I leave a website link but that's what the URL field is for.

Does anyone know any way around this? A proxy maybe?

Chances are the sites are so sick of spammers that like me they just remove the trackback and comments-post files so nobody posts.

Sure you miss the one or two genuine posts but you avoid the multitudes of spam.

Sound like plugins to me. These kind of plugin harm the webmaster and user's relation as well.

Does anyone know what criteria the plugins are based on? What raises the red flags to mark it as spam? It must be either my IP, my URL, my email, or any combination.

If it's my URL there's nothing I can do to get around that. But if it's my IP wouldn't a proxy get me around this problem?

Yes, this anti-spamming plugin will not read your post, but they will "read" your ip. If the same ip commentng for many time, they will automatic mark them as spamming post

The anti-spam is a good thing for certain reasons, but can effect the non-spammers. I remember when I had a blog, and it had spam comments flying in day by day which really bothered me. However, Wordpress need to do something, maybe add some sort of verification code, which needs answering such as (1+1=)?

On the other hand, we still should appreciate their efforts as spam comments is a huge issue nowadays with blogging.

Did you read my post? These filters are over aggressive. I don't post much at all. I can literally post two blogs from a fresh IP and when I go to the 3rd it is blocked. Keep in mind I'm not posting mindless replies, I'm actually reading the blogs and writing lengthy responses to them. Definitely not spamming.

I agree, wordpress needs to add a verification of some kind to try and stop some spam but still allow real, genuine, unautomated comments through. I think it's currently blocking some good comments. But to be fair - it's blocking a lot of spammy ones too.

Are you using keywords in your Name when you leave comments? That has been triggering spam filters lately. I've tested it - they block comments if my name is "Chicago Custom Furniture" but will approve the exact same comment if I just change my name to "Mr. Dee" or something else.

I had this problem and found the issue was with Akismet and that a blog person didnt like my comment and put me down as spam and therefore all comments I made on wordpress sites that used Akismet automatically ignored me as spam and i got that magic white page you mentioned. It didnt happen to me though when I changed the website address in the form field to something different or left it out. Anyway, I contacted Akismet told them there was a mistake and they said on this one occassion they would lift the spam against me. Its frustrating for me as I only make posts that i considor worthwhile. The blogs are going to be the ones who lose out in the end IMHO.

I've also had the problem when the comment returned a blank page.. I always thought it's because the owner removed the post comment files from their wordpress directory.

But yes, Akismet is really anoying - after commenting on 2-3 sites, even if I don't add a Homepage URL under my name and post a meaningfu comment, totally related to the post (just like a normal person would do) it marks it as spam and so it will be displayed under the "Akismet Spam" tab under the moderation section which no one looks at...

Has anyone had success bypassing the askimat by using a proxy, yet still using the same URLs they used previously?
