Hey everyone, I have a problem I can't seem to resolve and I need your help. I have been trying to get complete control over my blog where I can use plugins and adsense. I recently register a blog with wordpress my domain was something like mydomain.wordpress. It was a remotely hosted domain. I wanted to look more professional so I bought the domain from wordpress. After I bought the domain I bought hosting from hostgator. Then I used fantastico's easy installation and installed wordpress. I think the last step for me is to point my name servers to my hostgator hosting. The problem I have is I can't find my name servers. I have contacted wordpress countless times to try to resolve the situation, but they have yet to reply. Does anyone know where I have to go within my dashboard to find my name servers?
Hey William, Here's the problem, you have 3 separate entities. 1. Your free WordPress.com located at blogname.wordpress.com 2. Your new domain name located at yourdomain.com 3. Your new hosting account on host gator located on at a temoporary Host Gator address until you point your Domain name to Host Gators DNS Servers which are ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com see http://www.hostgator.com/dns.shtml for more info. Here's what you need to do to fix your situation. 1. Login to your Domain Name manager and change your DNS servers. If you registered your new domain name with Host Gator then you can find the connection info in an email they sent you. If you've registered your domain name with Godaddy then login to Godaddy and change your DNS settings by following these instructions http://help.godaddy.com/article/664 2. Once you do that you'll be able to see your WordPress blog you setup using Fantastico at http://yourdomain.com Now you'll need to export your blog posts etc from your Wordpress.com and import them into your new blog on Host Gator. 3. Login to WordPress.com and go to the Admin of your blog then follow these instructions http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ 4. Once your DNS settings switch over in a few hours (it could take as long as 24 hours) you can now go to your new blog on Host Gator and import the file you exported in step 3. Go to http://newdomain.com/wp-admin and login with the user name and password you entered in fantasico. For use the import link on the same admin panel you used to export your blog before in step 3. Done! Let me know if you need any more help. Virgil!
