Wordpress multiple ping penalty?

I use Wordpress and it automatically pings ping-o-matic and others whenever I publish a post. Sometimes I need to edit a post after I publish it. Does Wordpress ping every time I re-publish after an edit? If so, I've heard services don't like multiple pings, am I being penalized in any way?

I doubt that you would be penalized for this.

There is no problem at all pinging to much. (within reason of course)

Sites like techorati will just not list you if they think you are spamming and they do a really good job with it.

Also keeping on technorati ping-o-matic and technorati have been having issues. I wouldnt be suprised to see most services drop ping-o-matic soon

I am a goof, but I use Pingoat manually after every post. I just removed everything from WP's auto-ping section.

http://www.pingoat.com/ - yet another aggregate pinging service, like http://pingomatic.com/ - but pingomatic never seems to be working when I post something to my blog...

I get confused with all this ping stuff. So since phynder and shoemoney both think manually pinging at Pingoat is the way to go, and no one is shouting them down, I think I'll start doing that. :) Thanks for the info, it's really helpful!

Try it out and see what you think - it will certainly solve the potential problem of over-pinging (perceived or real).

I have found this plugin resource that sets the application to NOT ping on updates. Works well as I usually have to go back and do updates right away and dont want to wait for the pings to come back. I usually do turn this off if I am updating the posts at a later time as I want the new content ping'd

Didn't you watch The Hunt for Red October?

    "One ping or two?"

    "One ping."
