Wordpress Kinks and Obstacles

    Hello fellow designers,

As a newcomer to the business, I find myself faced with two obstacles.

    My site: www.hitechgadgetspro.com
    My CMS: Wordpress 2.7

    Obstacle #1)

    Slide show trouble:

I am trying to incorporate a "slide show" feature on my home page (currently the large black shape). It should scroll up when a category is clicked on nav-bar. [jQuery] However, once page is loaded, it comes up again because it is in the template file "index.php". My problem with that is that I want the slide show ONLY on the home page.
    - Please help me by telling me a way to have the slide show snippet only show up on the home page

    Obstacle #2)

    Thumbnail Dilemma:

I am also trying to post thumbnails next to each post excerpt, but I am having difficulty creating a system for that. I want to use a custom field, and then have it shown in my loop.

    - I'm not sure how to create a custom field in WP2.7 , and I don't the php code I have to put in the loop for it to show up.

    Help will be greatly appreciated,

    The Gadgetpro

PS: any comments on the site layout/design ?

The slideshow thing should be easy, all you have to do is use an if tag. There's a page on wordpress.org that teaches you how to do it.

Good layout but the bottom part with the blog posts needs more work/design

Thank you! (for the help and for the compliment) :)
I am working on that very much so, and I plan to put a "latest and featured posts" thing there.

For your 2) dilemma, you might want to refer to WordPress Codex on how to use custom fields. Basically, you just need to call the meta key using the WP function the_meta().

You can look through the free WP magazine themes to see how they're used.

JOELJONATHAN, thanks for the plugin reference... the one I had was MUCH worse.

LVTIM, I'll look into that... I think that's how I figured it out the last time...not quite sure though.
