Wordpress is a better choice than joomla. At least, for what you want to do.

I'd go for Wordpress as I personally use it and it is easy to promote with all seo plug-ins.

I'd also suggest Wordpress. It is easy to use, simple and friendly. Also, it will be simple to code and make design changes, and ofcourse, easy to use seo plug-ins with Wordpress.

Wordpress is great. Plus, you can add more stuff to the backend to customize it a little bit more or add more features to REALLY make it a robust CMS.

I'd personaly go with WordPress. But don't forget that it also depends on what your site is about. Some sites' content cannot just use WordPress. But go with the WordPress :p :D.

Wordpress makes it so easy to have friendly URL's on your pages. Definitely my recommendation.

I think it depends on how many pages you want your site. If you have many categories and over 100 articles I would go with Joomla. Wordpress sites don't look as professional. Good Luck.
