Wordpress issue and a posting question

Hey guys, I am currently testing OUT Wordpress on Xampp.
I I have chosen the Permalinks format as Day and Name.
But, after publishing a post, I can't view it as I get an 'Object Not Found Error' for all my posts and page.
A friend said I would have to modify .htaccess files, and I have absoultely NO clue on how to do that, so can someone tell me what I am doing worng here?

    Also my second question:
    Blogger introduced 2 email functions:
The first one being BlogSed, which I can replicate on WordPress, by setting up a new user as a subscriber.

The second one is called Mail2Blogger, where it generates a unique email ID, to which an email sent will cause the system to publish that email as a POST.
Is there any WordPress modification for this?

Please answer soon, as I soon plan to move my BLOG onto an online server.

create blank notepad file place that code which given while changing permalinks, place in notepad file , rename as htaccess and u r done.

also at local server no need to change permalinks, permalinks usually changes for seo purpose. in local server u r admin and user too.

Creating the htaccess file as mentioned above is pretty easy.

As for the mail2blogger thing, check out the backend of WP as it has this feature built in and has done for quite a long time. go to :Settings > Writing. Scroll down and you should see the post by email options. Fill those out and all should be working well.

Good luck and hope it helps.

    One mmore question:

Should I put the .htaccess file in my blog directory or the public_html directory?

And do I need to chmod it or anything of that sort?

if you are using xampp then you should be having the server on your own computer

why would you be installing xampp onto your normal web server

normally you run xampp on your pc to see how the wordpress post looks before you publish it on the web

That is exactly what I am doing.
I have created a blog, and a forum, and I have added catagories, forums, made posts et all, and don't want to restart, so I plan to export the dB and then upload it to the server and resume.
But, I want to test out EVERYTHING, including the links with xampp, before going forward..
