what is the best way to back up your files if you are using wordress. If you have a blog/site that is several hundred pages, is there a way to make a hard copy or back up copy of this data...

    Thanks in advance...

Try the 'wpdatabasebackup' plugin , that should help.

If you want to take backup of whole blog including theme files then take 'Home Backup' from Backup option in cpanel. You can get your mysql db backup through wpdbbackup plugin easily (daily, weekly, monthly) as you want.

Yes, this is the best advice for a full backup.

Once that is done you should use the export option in your WP admin to download a backup of your posts.

Wpdbbackup plugin is definitely a very good plugin which provides option for backing up the complete blog on your server itself as well as downloading the same on your pc too. One can even attach it in an email and store it at your email account too.

I will actually recommend you back it up from phpmyadmin manually, thats the most secure way you can do it.
