Yes, I've found it very confusing at the start, I hope that wordpress in future will move towards making it easier for people to disable comments AND not to show the box with comments/the notification that they've been disabled.

We own a Wordpress, small business affiliate website which uses a customised theme. We were quite impressed with the design when we bought it. It is easy to maintain, once you have a bit of experience and know your way around.

At the end of the day, the success of any business website depends on the marketing and monetization, irrespective of the tools used to create the website. That is the most important part of owning a small business website. Promotion and monetization can be a steep learning curve for a newcomer to the website business, not a skill you can require overnight. I guess what we are trying to say is focus more on what tool is going to be easier for you to control and master in a short time, rather than choose a tool for it's business properties. If you are not capable of controlling and promoting your website, there will be no business anyway. Ask us, we learned that lesson the hard way!

I can't post links yet, but have a look at the customised design of our Wordpress website :

To the OP: if you have no knowledge of web development then yes, Wordpress is a great free solution. It's good for newibies and pro's.

Good point. As DickieKnee stated, you have to disable the COMMENTS in Wordpress to make it look like a website instead of a blog. To do that, you have to modify Wordpress coding. Still, it is not a huge obstacle, considering that Wordpress is probably the easiest application to modify compared to others. I prefer knowing a little about how to change the coding, it gives me control of my website. There is no way you are going to run a Wordpress website/blog without digging into the code sometime or another. If you are prepared to do that, you don't have to rush out and buy a customised Wordpress theme website at a ridiculous price. The need to customise your website for your own purposes arises sooner or later, whether it is one you set up yourself or one that you bought. We learnt that lesson the hard way!

For creating a business related website with thoday's available technology, I would highly recommend using Joomla. Especially if you can afford $500 - $5,000 on a good design team. There are many top names using Joomla to power their business related sites. Did you know that IHop.com is using Joomla?

Yes, shop around though, there is a huge amount of good templates available at reasonable prices, this market is very competitive, which is good for newbies, we can pick and choose, don't get ripped off.
