Wordpress ... good choice for business website ?

    Hi there

I have a quick and simple question ....

Is Wordpress a good choice for a small business website, not e-commerce, just for a business on the Service area. Little interaction with visitor/customer, a contact form and text/pictures. I think is called a "presence only" website

what the pros have to say ?

I'm an amateur DIY when it comes to web design, I did something but 10 years ago, and seems like is not the same universe that it was back then :)

    thanks in advance

Yes - Wordpress is easy to use and so many add ons.

Not sure if it is good for what you want though.

However - you could try it as it is free !

The idea is re-design my website, which is for a Window Cleaning company, so pretty much a static site.

At the same time I don't want it to log just like a blog

Yes Wordpress you can use it as a business website, it also really depend on what type of themes that you use, some themes are really customized into a look-a-like ecommerce website. And other would take advantage of wordpress as to review products and at the same time have higher chances of selling the products.

I used wordpress to set up a couple of business websites...it is nice because you can easily update everything - the hardest part is finding a theme that accomplishes what you want it to. I've used wp-remix on one site, it looks awesome, another site I used Itheme's essence, which also looked pretty good. They are premium themes meaning you'll have to pay for them, but it's well worth it for a company design.

There's also a few free "portfolio" style themes that could work well, depending on what your business is.

I use wordpress for everything these days though, so maybe I am just a little biased :)

Nonsense, by the way, "another portal" ?? You mean CMS, right?

Exactly, If you have wordpress, you can style it to whatever you want, I'm in the middle of designing a business website on wordpress.
Wordpress is good for business websites as it comes with integrated "news" section :p It's SEO friendly and easy to manage and update for your clients.
All depends on your design skills.

Wordpress is a good choice for ANY site.

Wordpress is a full CMS, not just a blgoo (as it is configured by Default)

Joomla and Drupal are also GREAT choices, but I personally don't see a *need* for them unless you're planning on having thousands of registered users (a strength of drupal).

Wordpress is the single most used CMS, so if you're not so good at coding it's got the best support, most themes and most plugins. If you're new at this it's therefore your best choice.

    Yes, WordPress would be fine.
Generally developed as a CMS for sites with much content (or simply: blogs) with lots of addons WordPress can be optimized for different needs now.

Go ahead and power your site using WP!
But don't forget about template customization: it's a business site, so it'd better not to remain blog or something.

Like another poster said it all comes down to your design skills. If you are a good designer you can make it NOT look like a blog. I'm personally a drupal user, but I've seen some incredible stuff that is powered by wordpress.

I have found Joomla very confusing and not very easy instruct clients on updating the content, Joomla comes with too many options and when it is used by someone who thinks they can do websites then they are left a website with no or very few onpage optimisations elements. Wordpress is a bare bones CMS system, the look and feel of the site is dependant upon the theme which you are using, however all of tha can be changed in the CSS changing the background pictures, the colors and the font size (and more). there is alot of help for wordpress and people are developing new plugins and themese constantly.

as a business website you will want to ensure that the comments are turned off and that you edit the theme so that when comments are turned off then your visitors do not see the text "NO COMMENTS" or "COMMENTS ARE CLOSED".. with this done then the average visitor will not be able to tell that it is a blog
