Wordpress generic comments - are they spam?

I set up a site (http://stoppedsnoring.com) using wordpress and allowed comments on most of the content pages. I find that I am getting a fair number of kudo comments, usually a small paragraph that my spidey-sense is telling me are spam of some sort. What is strange is that the comments are very generic and usually say something along the lines the my "articles or posts are great" and "keep up the good work", and "I'll definitely come back from time to time" but don't really indicate a connection directly with the content of the site. I don't see any URL in their comments so it isn't like they are fishing for links back to their own site nor selling anything. What do you think would be the purpose for doing this?

Ohh thanks alot for killing my ego extremephp! I guess they are spam then and my posts are probably quite poorly written. Heh figures.
So the linkback is in their name portion even if it isn't in the text of their comments..
I Just trashed a bunch of comments from the site. Oh well.

You better add nofollow free plugin in your wordpress in case you would like to keep those posts. This would remove the link back possibility for their posts :)
