I want to build a small eCommerce site for about 100-200 products and I already know how to use Wordpress. What are some pros and cons from your experience with using wp ecommerce plugins? which plugins worked the best? or go with something like opencart or magento?
Dear nase685, If you want to build small ecommerce website where you can sale your products, I would like to suggest you to please visit http://websiteonlinesolution.com. WOS can build ecommerce website in very low cost and also they can guide you for how to use WP plugin for online shopping cart and manage database as well.
I have never found a WP commerce I liked. 100-200 products is a lot I would consider looking at a few different commerce solutions and carts. That is a lot of products you don't want to be working with anything buggy or unsupported.
Magento is definitely the best eCommerce option for larger stores, but it takes a of resources and can definitely be too much to handle. OpenCart is also a good option, but there are definitely a few good WordPress extensions for eCommerce. WooCommerce has a great reputation and WP e-Commerce, while not as popular is an option as well. I would check out this article about using WordPress for eCommerce - http://blog.nexcess.net/2013/04/23/using-wordpress-as-an-ecommerce-platform/ Hope this helps.
[3:58:30 PM] Arihant: There is no problem if you go with WordPress as it is also a good platfrom for development. But , I would rather suggest you that you go for a platform which is specifically created for online store development like Magento, OpenCart etc. Another thing, there are many WP eCommerce plug-ins which varies according to the business needs, you can choose which suits your needs. Also please be specific for your queries.
I agree with what everyone is saying. Woocommerce is good for smaller stores, but 100-200 products you may need something more powerful. While I am sure that there are a ton of sites running on WP with large stores, they probably have a lot of maintenance and security upkeep. Another good eCommerce solution is Prestashop. It's a relatively large platform and the add-on's will cost money, but it is very powerful and we have had great success running it for a business I work with. Best to find something you want to stick with forever, that way you won't have to transition and transfer customer acct's ect. to a new system. That may be a headache!
I operate a few stores that use WP + WOO, and one of them has 500+ products. I don't think it's hard to manage that many products on Woocommerce. What exactly does "more powerful" mean? Use the CSV product import plugin, and it's really not hard to add/merge/update mass amounts of products. Woocommerce has seen insane adoption rates in just two years, and has surpassed Magento and Opencart in several key areas. If you are set on using WordPress, then WOO is your only option for ecommerce. I've tried wp-ecommerce and cart66, which just don't cut it.
