I would like to know if anyone has had problems moving or creating a large scale (30,000+ pages) website to WordPress. Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

I'm currently moving over an 800 page site to wordpress (manually...and yes, I've been working hours every day for months). I don't know the process that would be involved in doing this automatically, but if you're looking to insert ads, DIV areas and other things, it will either involve hiring a database master or doing it the hard way.

For instance, my site is being moved over and every page needs a dynamic ad in a certain spot, as well as translating all of the old HTML tables to DIV's and other things like that.

I've been testing the site and it's running well so far. You could always try a plugin like WP-supercache to ease the load times.

There are a lot of large sites that use wordpress, the common concern that I heard where how much server resources it uses when a large amount of people visit your site.

I've got a pretty big wordpress site (10k posts) and my biggest problem is the max connections (ie to many visitors at once).

It can handle it - if you are concerned though install wp-cache. It's an easy to activate cache plug in that will take some of the load off.

Isn't the problem (max connections) related to database / server rather than WordPress ? Increasing the max connections limit may solve the problem.

Are you using shared or dedicated server ?

lol, wordpress.com/org is a real example of high traffic website using wordpress. the only matters are the tweaks and your server's resource/speed.

techcrunch.com is using Wordpress. Yes, you can use Wordpress for large scale websites. Why don't you use Joomla or Drupal?
