Yesterday I setup a site with latest version of wordpress , wordpress 2.1 . The backend user interface changes a lot . I can't get used to the navigation menus . It will take my time to get used to the user interface . Maybe at that time, latest wordpress have new user interface . Several months ago, the latest version of wordpress is 2.5 . I think wordpress's evolution is too fast . I can't following its step .
Few days ago, 2.7 released. The user interface is better. I think it just moved menu from top to left. Nothing big changes for me.
WordPress 2.7 was released about a week ago, which was quite a change at the backend with a new interface. Might take some a little while to get used to it, but its worth the upgrade. You should be happy with the evolution. WordPress just keeps getting better and better!
Lastest version? 2.1 was released on January 22, 2007. I think you've got a problem with your spacetime continuum. http://wordpress.org/about/roadmap/ I'm in the middle of creating a new site using 2.7, and personally, I think the admin interface is fkn 'orrible. And wtf is with the screwed up button backgrounds? Don't tell me they didn't bother testing it in FF 2.x...
Even though I have just started blogging, I found wordpress 2.7 quite good... One has to adapt quickly to newer versions....it is mostly helpful and done for our own good. As regards the publish button, even I was wondering why it looked little crooked....and I thought it to be a problem of my own !! Regards, RightMan
Glad to know it's not just me The new 2.7 admin interface is awful! It's slow, it's ugly, and (for me at least) it's totally unintuitive. Seems like the WP crew are changing things just because they can.
Use fantastico, and upgrade automatically. Or use an upgrade plugin like this one- http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/
I upgraded with godaddy control panel (don't think it's fantastico) and it crashed my site. Also, sometimes plugins stop working when I upgrade. From the sound of it, I think I'll stick with 2.6.2 for now.
Plugins may not be compatible with the latest version. Most basic plugins end up being compatible though.
Yeah the only bad side of the coin is that the plug-ins fall behind and some of the older themes are useless .... the WP designers must get tired of the required updates to their mods and themes - each and every WP update.
I found that from 2.1 to 2.5 it was basically the same, just a little different in the theme editing and tabs. However, when I went to 2.7 I changed right back to 2.6.5 as 2.7 looked too hard to learn on a new site. Also, from the few seconds I spent with 2.7 it looked very grunge style @ OP - If you are still using 2.1, you better upgrade to at least 2.5-2.6; otherwise you risk having your backend hacked.
The latest version should be the wordpress 2.7 . I mean to type 2.7 rather than 2.1, but made a mistake .
I hated 2.7 at first, but its starting to grow on me know that I know where everything is on the Dashboard
2.7 is a big change - I think I like the admin interface just because I've been getting used to it in the backend of wordpress.com where I use wordpress stats and the design changes were rolled out there in part a while back
