Hi All, I am just learning wordpress and need some help. There is a slide show on the main page that has no pics and I dont know how to add them. I also want them linked to something. I have searched everywhere for 3 days. (yes, I am that wordpress illerate) It's listed in the uncatergorized in the uncatergorized section and everytime you add a post, the sub-title chages to the new post tiltle. At present there is just a black box there. It also needs to be centerd. Here is the site so you can see what I am taking about. http://mary-jane.nichegoldwebsites.com Also the summary of the post has moved to the right and I want it all the way to the left. Gary p.s. The slide show is a them function
I don't know that theme, but on all of the themes I have with a Featured Image slider, the images have to be the exact size to display properly. There should be some documentation with it that tells you, a read me file, or something in the support forums or where ever. Also, some require you to add the image URL in the custom fields section of your post editor, the theme documentation should tell you how to label the field. And some use "Get The Image" that will take the first image from the post ( the first image uploaded to the post) It's really hard to guess your exact issue without knowing the theme or seeing the designers documentation on how to set it up.
I assumed that the image had to be the same size myself. I just can't figure out what PHP file the slide show is in. It has been mentioned in a couple of the files. I went through the style.css with a fine toothed comb and went over all the files semi well. Im just can't figure it out. Gary
It won't be in there. You may try looking for a file called "Featured.php" or "Feature.php". It may have the dimensions of the slider and possibly the image. Also look for additional CSS files. If "Featured Image" or something similar is not in the main CSS it may be in another one. Some designers call it "Slider" as well. Normally those things are in the Read Me file. Didn't this theme come with any documentation ? Where did you download it from? Oh yeah, one more thing, I'm almost certain that you have to set a category for the Featured Slider to work. Most times it's "Featured" and then only posts that are in "Featured" will display in the slider. Are there any settings for the theme under Appearances->Theme's ?
There is no "featured" file, nor anyhthing like Appearences< Themes. Here is a list of everything that is in this theme. Theme Files Templates 404 Template (404.php) Archives (archive.php) Comments (comments.php) Footer (footer.php) Header (header.php) Main Index Template (index.php) Page Template (page.php) Search Form (searchform.php) Search Results (search.php) Sidebar (sidebar.php) Single Post (single.php) Theme Functions (functions.php) Video Attachment Template (video.php) ads.php (ads.php) bottombar.php (bottombar.php) camelgraph-functions.php (camelgraph-functions.php) feeds.php (feeds.php) gallery.php (gallery.php) social.php (social.php) timthumb.php (timthumb.php) twitter.php (twitter.php) Styles Stylesheet (style.css) I just noticed that the header is out of alignment too. UGH. Gary
Thanks Kimi, There is a gallery scripts in there already. I looked in it, but that didnt help. LOL Gary
That is going to be really hard for us (or at least me) to trouble shoot your problem without access to the files, knowing where the theme came from, or any documentation from the designer about it's settings. It's hard to guess what a designer has done, or has in mind if he doesn't supply you with the information. My suggestion, is to do one last check to make sure that you have uploaded all of the themes files in their entirety, and disable any plugins that you have running and see if the theme at least displays aligned properly...if not...it's going to be more trouble than it's worth and to find another theme. I keep asking you this and you have never responded: Didn't this theme come with any documentation ? Where did you download it from? Every theme comes with something. Edit: I did see something peculiar that may be why you are having at least display issues. Your theme is uploaded here: You should not have (2) "wp-content "folders This file should be in: It looks like you have your theme uploaded improperly. Double check to confirm that your themes are all in www. yourdomain. com/wp-content / themes and your plug ins are in www. yourdomain. com/wp-content / plug ins
I noticed that wp-content was in there twice. I uploaded the site via a zip file in the WP admin area. I put the zip in the wrong file tho. As long as all pages have the same path, it's all good. Sorry I flaked on the "documentation question. The only documentation was go to blank website for installation inmstructions. There is nothing for trouble shooting tho. Gary
No it's not. You have to have the files in the correct place for everything to function properly or your stuff will be all over the place and will probably mess up other things as well, like special features of the theme and plug ins. It has nothing to do with the URL of your blog pages and it doesn't matter if everything has the same path, if the path is wrong. How can other parts of the software call for functions if it can't find the correct path? It can't. You can only have one wp-content directory. All of your other functions regarding your theme and plug ins depend on it. And did you read the instructions regarding using the Featured Content Scroller and how to set it up? There should be some instruction on using any special features, or you can go to the plug in site http://www.featuredcontentgallery.com/ and see if that applies to this designers theme.
Just made me think that you should pick up a copy of WordPress for DUMMIES by Lisa Sabin-Wilson I have a copy on my desk right here!
AHA, I see what you mean now. Reckon I should remove and replace the site for the correct path then. I went to the site and looked for the directions, but none were there. This is all they had. A cheat sheet. woorkup.com/2009/11/01/wordpress-visual-cheat-sheet
