Currently we own 17+ domains with the word "wordpress" in the domain. We didn't think this would be a problem as WordPress is not a "for-profit" corporation but an open source organization. We plan to open a couple sites offering services to the WordPress community. Do you think we will run into legal issues with a domain that has "wordpress" in it? This site doesn't seem to have run into any issues yet "http://www.easywordpress.com/"
I would think that you will be okay as I have many variations or extensions of the Google name all over the place. Of course, if your site looks like a Word Press knock off, I would think that someone with WP would be unhappy with someone from BC!
Yes this is our opinion as well. We feel if we're simply adding to the overall WordPress community then we should be fine.
That's good to know now before starting our site but that sucks for the money we invested in 17+ domains! Thanks for the info though
Don't assume that because something is open source the name is not trademarked. Open source is not the same as not for profit or public domain.
