I am not techie. Suddenly my wordpress website is down. Here is the error message:

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Apache/1.3.33 (Debian GNU/Linux) Server at kutenk.com Port 80

What's wrong with the above error?
I inform the helpdesk of my webhost provider ( Freehostia), but to my surprise he said that it is not web server problem.

    Here are their reply:
I'm afraid that we are unable to assist you. The problem is not server related. My test script is accessible.
You can try to change the PHP version to 5. Then test again to access teh web site. You8 can change the PHP version through the "PHP Settings" menu of the Control Panel.

Unfortunately we do not offer such services. We can't restore your site: www.kutenk.com. I'm so sorry but you have to resolve this issue by yourself.

I'm so sorry but we do not offer script debugging services for third party software. Please contact to some qualified developer regarding this issue.

I am surprised with their respond. So, Never host your website with Freehostia again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just dump non-technical customer like that.

Is it wordpress server problem or wordpress database problem or other problem?
Fortunately, I backup wordpress database daily on /wp-content/backup-e94af directory/my_blogmain_wp_20091221_049.sql.gz

How do I know if it is word press problem?
How can I restart wordpress engine?
How can I restore wordpress database my_blogmain_wp_20091221_049.sql.gz?

Please help. I am just confused.

You'll need to post the exact error that causes the 500 status code - check your error log in your control panel - if it's not there (or is clean) check the root folder for a file called error_log. Most of the 500 errors come from wrong code in the .htaccess file or wrong file/folder permissions. Your database can't be causing this and is most likely safe.

When was the last time your site was working? Did you make any change or did anything change at all in the codebase?

From the error - it would be premature to say what could be an issue - however don't think this is a db issue at this stage. Server is not able to process the request and thus giving a 500 error which can come due to a variety of reasons. Are you on paid or free hosting plan with freehostia? Hosting provider may not help you with the specific code you have installed - and this is true for almost all web hosting providers.
