I've noticed most wordpress blogs are no follow though I can't find anything in Dashboard or plug-ins that specificaly refer to this. Do people generally set their blogs to no follow manually or is it set up that way? Also, by allowing your blog to remain do follow are you destroying your SEO potential?
To answer your first question, Wordpress puts in the nofollow attribute for the comments section by default for when people post a link with their comments. For years I've been using this "dofollow" plugin to counteract that, http://www.semiologic.com/software/dofollow/ Not an SEO expert so I can't answer the last question, sorry.
thanks Colleen for the plugin link. the most strange thing is i use wrodpress for more than 6 months and I didn't know that comments in wrodpress is automatically no Follow. this is a shame for me. I read the post and just checked it with firefox seo and found it's true it's no follow automatically.
Thats true. Nofollow attribute for the comments section by default in WP and its advisable to keep it as it is. DON.
although most blog comments are nofollow, it seems that links from comments still help drive traffic to your site. Having a link in a comment on a top search result page drives people from that site to yours as they're looking for the answer you may be providing. Don't discount the impact it may have to a site.
By default, WP use no follow linking. You can search for dofollow plugin for your version of Wp at google.
I make the comments dofollow on my blogs where I'm expecting reasonably intelligent visitors. People who bother to make a decent comment deserve a backlink. On some of my more moronic WP powered sites, I just leave it as nofollow, or disable comments altogether.
I have now also made my comments "dofollow" so feel free to add comments that are relevent to the topic. No spamming though! All comments have to be approved
Just noticed your signature link.. Sooo..what kind of visitors does "Hairy sisters eats raw dog food from wet diaper" get?
Im guessing you guys are talking about blogs actually at wordpress? and not self hosted blogs, as theres no default of nofollow on my blogs (self hosted) also i think its the least that anyone can do if someone takes the time to post a genuine comment on your blog, they deserve the link back to their site. If you're looking after your blog well and doing everything correctly then do away with nofollow, encourage folk to comment, dont put them off, of course they are looking for a little something, but aint we all.
