Wordpress.com and Adsense

Hello all, I had a few quick questions.

Currently I am using wordpress.com for my blogs. Some of my blogs have been upgraded to "myblog.com" or "myblog.net" so the .wordpress.com no longer shows. My question is can I run Google Adsense on the WordPress.com blogs. How about affiliate ads, banners..? I'm predicting that you MUST use the .org version because of the access to the coding, but I am not very php savy.

    Your answers are very muchappreciated.

You can't use adsense on wordpress.com blogs. It is quite simple to install if you want to move over to .org

Yea, im sure I could get the hand of it. If I do transfer over to the .org version, can I transfer my .com blogs over? Including site theme, content ect... I don't want to lose all my hard work.

Yup I am pretty sure that the admin section has a import and export feature in it - on wordpress.com.

Wordpress.com is good because it shares the traffic - just not the revenue ....

So expect a loss in traffic.

Yeah and wordpress.com - doesn't like any ad's or cash going in your hand .... it doesn't even like yo dropping your own links in posts ....

I think you can use it, you just have to upgrade your account to allow you to edit your theme. But I would check first.

I figured you could if you upgraded your account to code your own theme. Maybe not. Don't listen to me then, haha.

Oh OK .... nah I just had another look at everything there, even the upgrades, but still nothing .... in the way of ad's allowed. You can kind of work on your own coding - but it'd be very basic (in capabilities).

I'd imagine they'd be very strict as to what goes on their site and members blogs - code wise.

    .....

But then it says "VIP blogs are permitted to run ads." .... sigh*

You could also get a blogger which puts adsense on for you...and you can diguise the site and make it look like a real website..There are alos some great templates available..Check out this site 101 pctips. It is a blogger free blog...

You can import wordpress database to it...

Also having Wordpress is fantastic but there is too much hassle with adding adsense to them...But if you have a paid host and upload wordpress to it...Well that is another story. That just kicks everything out of the water.

In case it's not clear, no you can't put ads on your free wp.com blog ..even if it has a Custom Domain.

But since you have a custom domain, you can buy some 6$ hosting and do a one-click install of Wordpress.org. Do an Import/Export from the new blog to the old. All the themes on Wordpress.com are available for download, so you won't loose anything. Remember to delete the wp.com blog after you transfer the domain else Google will withhold love for you.

Ok so I see we have come to a conclusion. Yes I do own my own domains and I have BASIC hosting with GoDaddy (4.99 a month). My new question, since I already payed 10 dollars to forward my "myblogname.wordpress.com" to "myblogname.com" will that interfere with me installing the .ORG version of the blog onto my host?

You will need to point the domain away from wp.com and towards your hosting account.
