After all the years of being on the web and doing my own SEO, I was doing some linking and was linking to some of my wordpress categories. I was in the source code and to my utter disbelief I saw No Index, Follow. Are you telling me that categories do not get indexed by Google? I mean, I have actually paid for links to point to categories...all for not? Someone jump in and let me know, as I know that pointing to internal pages will help rank those pages, and I thought wordpress categories was a huge benefit to get them ranked, but now I don't know what to think.
you can select to have categories, tags and archives indexed or not. having them no index / followed is the strongest seo configuration for the main posts to rank and avoid duplicate content issues. the "follow" part means that although they aren't indexed, google will follow and counts links off those pages and therefore factor that PR into their link graph so theoretically links to them will still help your overall cause, but if youve used targeted anchor text to them to try and rank categeories.. - that aint gonna work
No Index in your Category useful to avoid duplicate content. Install/Modify Platinum SEO Pack in your wordpress if you want it to be Index,Follow
