Wordpress Blog slow to load on dedicated server.

Earlier this afternoon, I noticed my blog was really slow to load on a dedicated server. Pages would take upwards of 10 seconds to display using a cable modem. This lasted for a few hours and now the site loads exceptionally fast.

Before I speak to the host and ask them to verify my server status, is there anything I can do in terms of additional research to verify if the problem is truly with the server or if it is with my modem connection.

Just as an FYI, this afternoon when my site was so slow, the rest of the net did seem a little slow, but certainly not as slow as my blog.

I thought about that as a possible cause, but if it was that, the site would be slow all the time which isn't the case.

The site is not released yet so traffic is also not a cause of the slow downs.

if it happens again check the site though a few proxy's to see if loads though them it's possible it may be route problem.

Your ISP might have been the culprit...it occurs often. ;)

Can you post a traceroute to your site from home?

Also, one more tracert from server to home would be great!

Check if your server is swapping, high-load, maybe it is flooded?
Do you have access to MRTG stats ? You could check real-time if there is any unusual traffic...
