I was looking at one of my blogs powered by wordpress and noticed a dip in my google traffic. When I search for my physical home page URL in google it comes up but the description for my site is being pulled from one of my posts on the main page and not the meta description as set in my general settings. I am using the Twenty Ten theme and have the same description for my site in it's settings for tagline. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!
You'll need to install an SEO plugin like WordPress SEO by Yoast to control post-based meta settings. It also lets you control home page meta settings.
Thanks I did just install Yoast and I am currently setting it up. What I am after is this when I search Google. I am sure I had this with a previous theme and had better listings. It's more of a technical question I am asking about wordpress rather than seo. I am not sure exactly how to set this up. Root of Blog: Mysite.com - mysite stuff My site is about mysite and it how to mysite things. Post of Blog: Widget Aticle - mysite.com Widgets and articles and stuff about stuff.
Oh ok. Once you have your setup done ping your site. I use pingfarm.com for this. It won't be instant but over the next few days (maybe weeks) your spec should change on Google.
Thanks for your help. I see there is a Home setting in the plugin to control the home page output. I think my current theme was overwriting this. Thanks again for your help.
