    Guys,

I am launching a self-funder project and looking for a CMS that can possibly do the following:

    1) User creation and management
    2) People can register on the site
    3) People can have their own blog
    4) Revenue sharing

At first i looked at drupal. I really liked it and it does all am looking for. However i heard that drupal is very DB centric and it causes a lot of issue when the traffic grows.

Is wordpress flexible enough to be converted into CMS?
If anyone has done it before? any examples?

If you can do it then please let me know your quote by PM only!

I would suggest you to go for a customized application instead of some readymade CMS..

As a Software Engineering rule states, no readymade software can meet more then 70% requirements of an individual or company.. Specially when you are looking for a complex application including revenue sharing.. its always good if you go for a customized application instead of some readymade crap..

    Drupal is fine dude,

I use it for some LARGE sites with over 2500 members and I know others on this forum that have member bases of 10K PLUS

    Word press sucks ass,

    Go with drupal for sure

    Just my thoughts

this is VERY true. I've made the mistake of going for one of those "a little bit of everything" CMS's and they have fallen short 100% of the time, for every niche site I've ever worked on. So, for instance, if you want a video sharing site, go for a video sharing CMS. If you want a community site, go for a community site CMS. Don't just rely on Joomla and a plugin or two to do the trick, you'll be disappointed.

Also, think ahead to the future, when a future version of Wordpress comes out. Will your custom modules get all chopped up after the update? Will the programmer still be around to make a patch for you? These are all dangerous mistakes I've made.

Why not just use wordpress MU http://mu.wordpress.org

It allows users to make their own blogs, and you can use the main page for your own updates.

Thanks everyone but i aint a programmer. To me, drupal was so much easy to understand. I just tried setting up a test site with drupal and it looks more friendly. Joomla is above my head and wordpress revenue sharing doest work properly.

Looks like Drupal is the way to go.

WordPress is definitely good for blogs, but if you are looking for CMS, then you should go for software that specialises on that, and I would highly recommend Drupal, e.g. for this site which I have been running on Drupal.

And by the way, don't go for Joomla (though some people recommends that), it's too much modules and configurations. It just makes you more confused.

WordPress, though can be made into CMS, but are not catered for that purpose. It may end up to be inefficient in the long run.

One more thing to be watchout while using all the open source applications are security issues.. I have seen on numerous occassions that script like PHPBB, WordPress, PHPFox, Mambo been hacked easily.. Since the source code is available freely on internet some guys mess arounds with it and then launches kits to hack the sites and ultimately gain the control of server.

so i suggests its better to go for applications made from scratch and then encrypt them before uploading them on the server..

I run a full blown membership site on Wordpress as a CMS and it is going great so far. Just go look at Blogging Empires.

I would not recommend using WordPress as a CMS if you have a large site. I started out with WordPress when my site was tiny and that was fine for a while. But as content and traffic grew more and more problems were created.

Go with Drupal. I was turned off on it at first like most others but if you put the time in it to really learn it you will see it is an outstanding piece of software.
