I've been talking to some people who have (very successfully) been using custom wordpress themes as content management systems. Does anyone do this? Or know where I can find a wordpress theme that doesn't look "bloggy"? Thanks
I do this at Modded Mustangs, All Car Garage, Celeb Spin to name a few. Modded Mustangs is custom the other two are modified themes.
Oh, didn't see that thread..thanks for the link. I eally like your mustang site, did you custom make that template?
Yes. It's not overly difficult, although I find it much easier to find a template that I like and modify it to suit. You can remove anything you don't want (like comments, trackbacks, date posted, author name, etc.) so it appears more like a CMS.
Take a look at this site and tell me if this classifies as "unbloggy". I create themes for this very reason - to have sites that don't look like blogs. Or if you know how to code, you can browse through some of these great CSS sites and try to use them as inspiration. I'm not saying copy their designs, but just use them as a reason to create something unique.
I have one doubt using wordpress or for that matter any such blogging platform for CMS. Won't it affect the SEO for the site. I mean won't it be better to use some other CMS for better SEO?
Au contraire. I've seen many articles written about WP and how it can positively affect SERPS. Once I switched over to WP, my blog traffic has increased. MSN is particularly fond of WP, I might add.

I use Wordpress as a CMS on Platinax: http://www.platinax.co.uk/ Also as a news portal here: http://www.financemarkets.co.uk/ Look like a blog in either instance?
This a great resource for those that don't want to use Joomla, seemingly the only 'user-friendly' CMS on the market. WP for a CMS is great! The SEO is wonderful and there are so many plug~in's, etc. that can be integrated to create robust CMS.
